Project Description
EB Frink Middle School is a replacement middle school campus designed to serve students in grades six through eight for Lenoir County Public Schools in La Grange, North Carolina. The new facility replaces the existing EB Frink Middle School while remaining rooted in the community it has long served.
The one-story, approximately 96,000-square-foot school is thoughtfully organized around an “E-shaped” plan that supports both academic identity and operational clarity. Each grade level is housed in its own wing, creating smaller learning communities, while a central spine connects shared programs including administration, media center, dining, electives, and athletics. This configuration enhances visibility, security, and ease of navigation throughout the campus.
Designed to remain fully operational during construction, the new building is located adjacent to the existing school and expands onto a neighboring parcel of land. Upon completion, the campus will continue to utilize existing athletic fields while providing updated vehicular circulation, secure student drop-off areas, and clearly defined public and service access.
EB Frink Middle School emphasizes high-performance design and long-term sustainability. The building incorporates a geothermal heating and cooling system, energy-efficient mechanical and lighting systems, and strategic daylighting to enhance student comfort and reduce energy demand. Durable materials, acoustically responsive interiors, and flexible learning spaces support contemporary instructional practices while creating a welcoming environment for students, staff, and the broader community.
The result is a modern middle school that reflects Lenoir County Public Schools’ commitment to safety, sustainability, and student-centered learning—while honoring the legacy of EB Frink as a cornerstone of the La Grange community.
