Project Description
The Erwin Elementary School is a PK-5 elementary school facility replacing the original elementary school on the same site. It’s design approach reflects the specific history of the Town of Erwin’s mill legacy. Founded as a mill town in the late 19th century, the Erwin Mills was the centerpiece of the town’s economy until the early 2000’s when the mill finally closed for good. To honor that history, the new elementary school is designed to evoke a historical reference to the mill typology with a repetitive façade and pseudo tower reference. The facility is 102,800 square feet in size and a two-story facility and will serve an enrollment of 650 students.
