Project Description
The Northwest Harnett Elementary School is a 118,331 sf facility with an enrollment capacity of 900 students. The facility incorporates a full-size gymnasium with a one-story PK-1 classroom wing and a two-story 2-3 and 4-5 classroom wing. The “main street” configuration incorporates the media center, art, music, STEM, project rooms, and collaboration spaces centered around an octagonal main space. All student drop-off and bus loop, as well as visitors to the school, enter through the main front entrance, flanked by the dining facility and the gymnasium facility. The west-facing facade incorporates unique screening devices to limit glare and heat gain. The facility is a highly energy-efficient building incorporating a geothermal well-field and water-source heat pump system to render an Energy Use Intensity rating in the mid-20’s.
