Students in Jones County, North Carolina are one step closer to attending school in a brand new facility. Firstfloor Energy Positive, the design-builder providing turnkey property development services for educational institutions, announces its groundbreaking date for the all-new energy positive, leased public PK-12 school in Trenton, (Jones County) North Carolina. A groundbreaking event was held on Monday, January 8, 2018.
SfL+a Architects, along with partners Firstfloor Energy Positive and Metcon Construction, will construct a new 125,000 square foot K-12 school with individual wings separating the elementary, middle and high school students, providing a safe, energy positive and cost-effective facility. The highly innovative, energy positive school will produce 75 percent more energy than it will consume. The new school will feature a modern take on traditional library designs, a food court styled cafeteria, agricultural aspects and a hub for large school and community gatherings.
The unique design of the school positively impacts the learning atmosphere for students. School administrators and teachers will also have the opportunity to use the school’s revolutionary power saving technology as a learning tool.
“When designing the school it was important to us that we bring in top-tier talent who understand these systems and are able to help optimize them in order to obtain the most energy savings for each school,” said Robbie Ferris, CEO of SfL+a Architects & Firstfloor Energy Positive. “Each school we build is uniquely crafted and designed to fit the needs of the students, teachers and administrators, while also contributing to the community and environment.”
